The Legal Service Center for Women
of Qianxi County (the Center),
established on December 22, 1995 with the approval
of the judicial
administrative authority, consists of full time
lawyers and legal workers
who voluntarily provide legal aid for women.
The Center aims at protecting women’s rights,
safeguarding legal justice and promoting gender
equality. It undertakes the mission to promote
justice and serve women. Great progress has been
made since its development.
● Led by the Center, a three-tier countywide network
has been set up with working stations at the town
level and working teams at the village level. The
Center has also established good partnership with
the Women’s Federation, the police and the
judiciary.
● A team working specially to protect women’s rights
has been developed, which includes 7 lawyers (5
female) and 60 legal workers.
● The working mode integrates counseling,
case-dealing and law-publicity. The legal service
and aid has been provided for women in various ways.
So far, 10, 000 person/time’s counseling has been
done for free, 600 times publicity of law and
training and 2,800 poor women victims have received
legal aid.
In the past ten years, the Center has achieved
continuous progress in its organization and staff
with the support of all ranks in society so that it
grows to be an influential rural legal aid
organization. The Center has received visitors from
Beijing, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Shandong, Guizhou, Hubei,
Liaoning and the Unite States, Britain, Germany,
Denmark, Holland, Italy, Australia.
The Center owes its achievements to the support from
relevant agencies of the government at each level
and the Women’s Federation and scholars such as
Professor Chen Mingxia (CASS), to the arduous
efforts of all the staffs and to the constant
financial support form the Ford Foundation. He
Jiesen, Zhang Lelun and Titi Liu, all program
officers, visited the Center many times with
constructive advice. |
